Meet Our Team

After thirty years in analytically intense investment environments, he missed interacting with razor-sharp minds as they grappled with complex investment issues. In particular, he missed bringing insights to investment practitioners who didn’t have access to the same analytical horsepower. John wanted back in the game, just not the 24/7 asset management part.

Laurence B. Siegel is the Gary P. Brinson director of research at the CFA Institute Research Foundation, economist and futurist at Vintage Quants LLC, and an independent consultant, writer, and speaker specializing in investment management. After retiring from full-time work at The Ford Foundation in 2009, Larry set up a consultancy that has helped a number of large institutional investment management clients perform and communicate their research. He has written three books and is currently writing a fourth, and also speaks to corporate, investment, and nonprofit audiences on his book topics. Larry’s focus has shifted from investment policies and strategies to a broader view of the global economy, the environment, human progress, and interdisciplinary ways of understanding the world. He also likes to loaf and do nothing, which is his excuse for not writing his books more quickly.

For Ted, he continues as the evangelist of investment insight. No one has done more to curate and promulgate market analysis and commentary than Ted has. His enthusiasm for Vintage Quants as a concept had a singular role in helping VQ achieve lift-off. Ted serves as the chairman of the CFA Institute’s prestigious Research Foundation and he is a past-President of the CFA Institute. A forty year quant practitioner, Ted has important things to say about implementation, the act, the science, perhaps the art, of translating theoretical alphas into superior realized returns.
